We Support a Fair Contract for Champlain, St. Michael’s and Burlington College Adjuncts

Champlain, St. Michael’s and Burlington College pride themselves on being respected institutions of Vermont higher education.Unfortunately, though adjunct faculty bring much value, expertise and professionalism to Vermont higher education, for years they have been left out of the decision making process on these campuses. As an example, adjuncts lack adequate office space to meet with students, a voice in curriculum, meaningful security and are paid wages which often fall under local and federal poverty levels. It is for this reason adjuncts organized and won unions at all three of these campuses last fall, and are organizing now to win a fair and just contract which will raise standards in higher education not just for adjunct faculty, but for the broader community as well.

We, the undersigned students, faculty and community members, support our adjunct faculty coming together right now at Champlain, St Michael’s and Burlington College in winning a fair contract. We call on the Champlain, St Michael’s and Burlington College administrations to settle quickly and without delay just contracts which fulfill the improvements our adjuncts seek, and provide the dignity and respect they deserve.
